Message variables
Personalize a greeting using information about the member and server.
Supported variables
| Setting or command | What it means |
|---|---|
| {user} | A mention of the member affected by the event. |
| {username} | The member’s Discord display name, with username fallback. |
| {server} | The Discord server name. |
| {member_count} | The member count observed for the event. |
Example
Welcome {user} to **{server}**! Take a look around and say hello.
Use the same variables in welcome, direct-message and goodbye templates. The dashboard preview substitutes example data locally; it does not send a message.
Limits
Messages may contain up to 2,000 characters before variables are replaced. Keep space for long member and server names. Unsupported variables are rejected by the settings form.
An empty template uses the runtime’s built-in greeting where one is defined. Clearing a message is different from disabling the corresponding delivery setting.
